What was TV like in the 1960s

TV began to become mass produced in the 1960s. TV became more increasingly popular as more exciting programmes were aired which were more realistic. There was the invention of investigative journalism and situation comedies. TV began to portray life as it actually was not how it could be. Charlie, SK. 2011. This sparked revolutionary changes in the television industry as more programmes were being made and shown than ever before. Even films such as Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho' pushed the boundaries more than anyone had ever seen showing a woman in the shower and a gory murder. Similar to The Flintstones being the first cartoon to show a couple in bed together.
Most situation comedies started in the US before coming to the UK. Cartoons such as The Flintstones was extremely popular at one point as entire families used to sit and watch.

Interesting fact

First couple shown in bed on TV, 2007.

Fred and Wilma Flintstone were the first couple to be shown in bed together on prime-time television. Omg-Facts.com, 2011.

Fred Flintstone Profile

                     Fred and Wilma, 2011.
Fred Flintstone is a fictional character. He is very charming and has a short temper which often gets him into trouble with Wilma when he's up to mischief. He is a quarry worker along with his best friend Barney Rubble. Throughout all the different remakes of The Flintstones, Fred's clothing never changes. It doesn't change because this is what people associate with Fred Flintstone, the orange and black top with a blue tie. As it is a children's TV show it is also easier for children to associate characters when they are consistently wearing the same outfits. Fred lived in the stone age which means they did not have many other clothes despite being conveniently modern sometimes. Although I don't know Fred's specific age, I can safely say he is more than likely in his 20s-30s, as they have a young child called Pebbles.
The show's running gag was its caricatures of modern conveniences; Fred's crane was actually a long-necked dinosaur, the phonograph needle was a bird with a pointed beak, and so forth. Who2?. 2007.

Research- The Flintstones TV series (1960-1966)

The very first thing I done was read the brief. From the brief I began my research.
First of all i used google to find out what TV programmes I could use for my task pre 1970. After looking into a few of them I settled on 'The Flinstones' which was set from 1960-1966. As a child i used to watch the newer televised version of the Flintstones and the film which was made in 1994 therefore this is what intrigued me to choose this programme.

The Flinstones was originally made as a cartoon. It is about two families from the Stone Age who end up an all kinds of adventures and it also includes comedy.
